Joanne Hemmings is a specialist in ethnographic methods, demographic techniques and survey design and the integration of qualitative and quantitative approaches in reproductive and sexual health. She has training skills in demographic and statistical research methods and qualitative methods and analysis. She is experienced in designing, implementing and analysing the results of a range of qualitative approaches. She is highly skilled in designing and testing sexual behaviour survey instruments, including the development of risk behaviour indicators. Joanne has experience facilitating research dissemination at community and policy level, and interpreting and communicating statistical information and ethnographic data for non-expert audiences. She has country experience in Malawi, Jamaica and UK. Her PhD explored the impact of infertility on women's lives in Malawi, integrating qualitative life history data with analysis of survey data.
