Monitoring
Since 2003, the PEER Unit has used a scalable and locally sustainable version of PEER, Key Informant Monitoring (KIM), to monitor and inform programme development for the KIM has been used in the DFID-funded Nepal Safer Motherhood Project (NSMP) and more recently with the Support to the Safe Motherhood Programme (SSMP). KIM enables implementers at village, district and national level to understand how women perceive changes in the wider social context in which pregnancy and childbirth are experienced. KIM is used to monitor progress towards creating an enabling environment from the perspective of hard to reach and marginalised groups. KIM captures the voice of rural communities as a tool for advocacy and social and policy change. The use of the approach has generated considerable interest in Nepal, where it is a valuable tool for monitoring and research conflict settings.
