Monitoring and Evaluation for Health
Measuring reach, behaviour change and impacts of a project are essential both to know what is working in your project (and what is not), and to gain support for more funding.

Monitoring and evaluation in community-based settings, for prevention, health education and advocacy can present real challenges to measuring impact. Options UK’s work specialises in designing monitoring and evaluation frameworks for these settings, and in choosing the right methods to demonstrate results, using the resources available.

Options UK is currently supporting the Tackling Female Genital Mutilation Initiative through the provision of technical monitoring and evaluation support to all third sector community-based agencies in the initiative.

The Tackling Female Genital Mutilation Initiative aims to safeguard children from female genital mutilation (FGM) through community-based, preventive work. This UK-wide initiative was established by three independent charitable organisations: Trust for London, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Rosa (the UK Fund for Women and Girls). The initiative is supporting fourteen organisations across the UK over a three-year period. The objectives of the initiative are:
  • To raise awareness among practising communities about UK law and the health and psychological risks of FGM.
  • To increase the confidence of women, men and young people within practising communities to reject this procedure as part of their identity.
  • To increase the skills and capacity within practising communities to influence individuals, groups, and statutory agencies.
  • To strengthen the voice of women and communities speaking out against FGM.
  • To improve coordination of activities amongst voluntary and community groups and statutory agencies working on this issue.
