"With PEER, the community can raise their real problems and help find real solutions."
– Marie Stopes International Ethiopia

Over the last ten years, in countries across the Caribbean, Africa, Latin America, Asia, and in the UK, PEER has helped many organisations to develop evidence-based communications, advocacy, and health programmes that reflect the true needs and realities of the communities they work with.

PEER is an innovative participatory approach to qualitative research. Ordinary community members conduct detailed interviews with others in their social network, through a process where they are supported in designing interviews and collecting and analysing data. The approach offers a rapid way of gaining in-depth understanding, particularly of sensitive issues such as reproductive and sexual health, and among hard to reach groups. The PEER process enables programmes to engage communities in dialogue, and promotes the voice of marginalised and disadvantaged groups.
